It seems with this pregnancy I have been quite emotional. If you have ever seen Dumb & Dumber, picture them in the hotel room bawling their eyes out at the TV, and then come to find out it is just a commercial. That is me.
See this pretty lady? This is my Grandma Shaw, my mom's mother.
Recently we have found out that she has Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma (B-cell). It is at Stage 3, ranging from her neck to her thighs. But the cancer is a Stage 1, meaning it is slow growing. Today she is starting her treatment.Times like these I SO wish that I lived closer to my family. If you know my family we are very close on my mother's side. It seemed growing up we were always over to Grandma's house for something. I even lived with my Grandparents for about a year during college. Which I wish I would have taken more advantage of. My Grandparents have always been there for me and the other grandchildren as well. It seems like they never missed any activity I had.
So, I have had a hard time with this. I think being pregnant, the knowledge of the disease that I have, and being so far away, have all played into me being quite emotional about it. My Grandma has started a blog to inform us all of everything that is happening. And almost every time I go to it, and see her picture to the side, I automatically get teary eyed. For weeks I wanted to call her, but knew if I did, I would just break down into tears. Finally my Grandma called me, which caught me off guard, which was probably good because I was able to hold it together.
I know my Grandma will be fine. She is a fighter. She would have to be, to be a Principal of Washington High for so many years. (It was a High School in Ogden that was for troubled youth, I guess you could say.) But most of all I know everything will be fine because of the knowledge I have of my Savior's plan for all of us.
I love you Grandma. And am so grateful and blessed to have you in my life. Thank you for all the love and support that you have given me. And for being such a wonderful example in all things. Be strong, and know that my thoughts and prayers are with you always.

I bawled so bad at fast sunday. The whole day I was thinking of Grandma and I stood up and bore my testimony and while I was up there I thought I was going to burst from all of the emotions and was so greatful that I went with them to hawaii before this was all found cause it made all since of why I had such a strong feeling to go with them. We all love you and miss you. Can't wait until we will see you in the summer.
Hi Mel, My Grandmother (That I look up to more than anyone!) has had multiple types of cancer since our second year in Med School. I was so emotional about it and I know how bad it hurts to think of life without them. My prayers and thoughts are with you. I know the feeling of wishing to be closer as well. She was just diagnosed with yet another tumor in her colon. I know our days are limited and I struggle stometimes (well most days). I'm just glad we have the gospel and know its all temporary. Love you and hope everything turns out well. Again, we are keeping you and your Grandmother in our prayers.
